Adult Learners' Week will take place May 18th-24th at a workplace near you.
Adult Learners’ Week is an opportunity for individuals and organisations to celebrate the benefits of lifelong learning. Whether you’re an individual looking at anything from improving your current job prospects to learning just for fun, or an organisation looking to help support adults with lifelong learning, Adult Learners’ Week is for you. This year’s Adult Learners’ Week is bigger than ever.
On Saturday May 18th at 13:00-14:00 get a chance to explore the Norwich Castle Museum Keep. This tour will take you around the oldest part of the Norman Castle. Norwich’s magnificent and historic Castle is one of Britain’s best. Hear an informal introduction to its rich and varied history, and learn what life was like 900 years ago. On Monday May 20th from 10:30-14:30 join the Norfolk County Council apprentices for an afternoon of events in the Marble Map Area. Full schedule coming soon.
Also on Monday May 20th from 13:00-14:00 in the Colman Room. Try your hand at a bit of art with introduction to Lino Cut and Printmaking. Guided by local artist Laura White get started in printmaking with this quick and inspiring session. Create card designs, invitations or just art for art's sake! Come and give it a try! On Tuesday May 21st come along to UNISON’s Lifelong Learning Fair taking place from 11:30-14:30 in the marble map area in at County Hall to learn about learning available in the local area. Organisations in attendance will include: the Norfolk Museum Service, Indigo Dyslexia Centre, Adult Education, the Norfolk Library Service, Open University, City College Norwich, Joy of Food, the Sainsbury Centre and UNISON Lifelong Learning. Visit the UNISON stall to fill in our learning needs survey and receive a free book.
Also on Tuesday May 21st visit the Green Room at the Archive Centre to hear a free talk on how to begin researching your family history from 13:00-14:00.
On Wednesday May 22nd from 12:45-13:45 at County Hall in Mez 2 come along to a free talk from Picture Norfolk to learn about William Henry Finch and his sons. A colourful Victorian family of photographers from humble origins (brought up in the Norwich Yards) who went on to became travelling photographers based in Acle and covering Broads villages. On Thursday May 23rd from 12:00-12:45 take a guided lunch time tour of the Archive Centre to learn more about its resources and its 50 year history. Places limited please book.
Also on Thursday May 23rd from 13:00-14:00 at County Hall in Mez 1 become an author when you try your hand at creative writing and learn more about the county hall creative writing club. Places limited please book.
On Friday May 24th from 12:00-13:00 take a guided lunch time tour of the Sainsburys Centre for Visual Arts at the UEA. Places limited please book.
At lunch time on Saturday May 25th (time to be confirmed) take a guided tour of the Time and Tide Museum in Great Yarmouth. Discover Great Yarmouth's fascinating history, its rich maritime and fishing heritage and some of the colourful characters who made their living from the sea. Places limited please book.
