Unison suggests: Could you be a Catton Grove/Mile Cross Community Learning Champion (CLC)?

Are you looking for a rewarding voluntary opportunity in your local community?
Community Learning Champions are volunteers who inspire and support friends, neighbours, relatives and other people across their communities to find out about and take up learning opportunities.

What sort of things could a Champion do?

v  Inspire and support others to take up learning

You will get the opportunity to:
v  Attend free training that could lead to a qualification

v  Increase your confidence and knowledge
v  Find new friends and have the satisfaction of helping others.

We are building a team of volunteers to work in the Catton Grove and Mile Cross areas. If you’d like to talk to us about joining the team please email: communitychampsnorwich@gmail.com or call:

Join the Community Gardening Project at County Hall

Community Gardening Project

UNISON Lifelong Learning will be launching a community garden at County Hall at the end of July. The site will be available for Norfolk County Council staff to use to grow their own fruits, vegetables and flowers before work, during their lunch break and after work.  Unison hopes this project will provide staff with a green space where they can learn to grow their own produce, promote staff wellbeing and increase positive interaction between members of the workforce. Spaces in the community garden are limited and will be allocated to staff via a sign up list. You do not have to be a UNISON member to take part.

We need your old gardening tools. Please donate.

To make sure this project is a success UNISON is requesting donations of gardening tools, plants and seeds to give our new gardeners the best possible start.
To sign up or to donate to the project please contact Melissa Brown UNISON lifelong learning project worker at melissabrown.unison@btconnect.com or on 07717517564.

Unison suggests: Camp Nanowrimo-Write a book in the month of July

Based on November’s National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), Camp NaNoWriMo provides the online support, tracking tools, and hard deadline to help you write the rough draft of your novel in a month… other than November!

Camp NaNoWriMo was established in 2011 as a project of the Office of Letters and Light, the parent 501(c)(3) nonprofit to National Novel Writing Month and the Young Writers Program. 2013 Camp sessions will take place in April and July.

What: Writing a novel from scratch in one month’s time.

Who: You! (And about 20,000 other novelists around the world.) Let’s write some perhaps-awful, but definitely lengthy, prose together.

Why: The reasons are endless! To actively participate in one of our era’s most enchanting art forms! To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties.

When: You can sign up anytime to add your name to the roster. Writing begins at 12:00 AM on April 1, and again on July 1. To be added to the official list of winners, you must reach your word-count goal by 11:59 PM on the last day of the month. Once your novel has been verified by our web-based team of robotic word counters, the partying begins.

The Rules:
  • Write a 50,000-word (or longer!) novel in July.
  • Start from scratch. None of your own previously written prose can be included in your Camp NaNoWriMo draft (though outlines, character sketches, and research are all fine, as are citations from other people’s works).
  • Write a novel. We define a novel as a lengthy work of fiction. If you consider the book you’re writing a novel, we consider it a novel too!
  • Be the sole author of your novel. Apart from those citations mentioned two bullet-points up.
  • Write more than one word repeated 50,000 times.

  • You can be inspired by list of published NaNoWriMo authors here: http://nanowrimo.org/publishedwrimos/.

Good luck and have fun writing!
